Immigration Policy In the Past:

Loosely/poorly enforced; political posturing based on a desire to spraypaint defenders of this nation as wanting to inhumanely deport women and children and babies and send them back to where they snuck into the country illegally from. Nominally open borders because we don't provide those tasked with the job of the resources to control the borders, along with conflicting policy statements based purely on domestic politics and pandering to the left as the base of one party.

New Immigration Policy by Edict of the Emperor: "The president’s plan is expected to affect up to five million of the nation’s unauthorized immigrant population, currently 11.4 million according to the Migration Policy Institute. It would create a new program of deferrals for approximately 4 million undocumented parents of American citizens or legal permanent residents who have been in the country for at least five years. Deferrals would include authorization to work and would be granted for three years at a time."

I'm just a simple man, so I have simple questions about this new Edict from On High:

1] Will this new plan be enforced? If so, then how do unauthorized undocumented current illegals demonstrate that they "have been in the country for at least five years?" Are they just asked?

2] If they fail to register for the deferrals and pay taxes, will they be inhumanely deported, etc, or suffer any act of enforcement at all? Now that -would- be something new. From where is coming this new urge to inhumanely deport folks, etc., for violating the law?

3] If they are not paying taxes now, and also, not being inhumanely deported, etc., and under the new edict of The Emperor, will not be inhumanely deported, then ... why would they volunteer to do the same plus pay taxes? If they are idiots, we have enough already.

It is kind of silly to even ask these questions; they presuppose that this is actually some policy, and not just pure political theater. Of course it is pure political theater. Obama was spanked in the election, now he has to throw a tantrum to prove he is relevant. We are that nation today. Shabby politics, shabby politicians, leading us all to shabby nation.

They will be asked to show something like a utility bill or apartment rental agreement that is at least 5 years old. (p.s., These can be purchased for a nominal fee in most of the larger cities in the South West)

And besides this stimulation of the economy of making fake apartment rental agreements, the added benefit is that it expands the 'authorized' population from about 4 million, to not just most of that estimated 11 million, but adds all of those who can get across the border in the next few years (or decades) and pay their fair share for an apartment rental agreement.  I suspect that the Dem's are hoping for a change of about 20 million who they think will eventually vote mostly Democratic.

--------------

2] If they fail to register for the deferrals and pay taxes, will they be inhumanely deported, etc, or suffer any act of enforcement at all? Now that -would- be something new. From where is coming this new urge to inhumanely deport folks, etc., for violating the law?

We will see. And since there is a chance that they will actually run a criminal check at the time of registration (which they are supposed to do), that those with criminal records other than being in the country illegally, will not register... so, one of the big reasons for having a secure border, which is keeping better control over violent criminals, won't get any better.

---------------

3] If they are not paying taxes now, and also, not being inhumanely deported, etc., and under the new edict of The Emperor, will not be inhumanely deported, then ... why would they volunteer to do the same plus pay taxes? If they are idiots, we have enough already.

There are those progressives who want them to be able to get photo ids, like drivers licenses, which they can't do in many states. This is important, because those progressives are hoping they will be grateful enough to register to vote (illegally) and to then vote (illegally) to keep in power those who will make this temporary non-deportation become permanent.  As to why they would want to register, it will depend upon the state. Some states already allow illegals to draw on all kinds of means-tested entitlements but most don't.  They will be able to get paid not to work, Section 8 for free housing, ObamaCare, an Obama phone, Food Stamps, and on and on and on.

---------------

There are other reasons for this.  Obama becomes the center of attention once again and I think that is very important to him.  He is driving the issues again. He hopes to make the GOP look bad (not hard to do) and hopes to ensure a progressive in the White House in 2016, and to beat up on the GOP enough in the next two years to win the Senate back (lots of Republican seats up for grabs in two years).  And he believes in identity politics and he is growing a major democratic identity base - and I'm sure he hopes this new cohort of potential voters is as stupid as many of the other loyal elements of his political base are..

Good analysis.  You and I talked about this before;  my impression of the folks around the border, like down in Tucson, who are running those small businesses and working their butts off, are that they are some of the most conservative people I've ever met.   I've always thought the GOP was a little backwards on some of the details of who is it that are immigrants -to- this nation.

I'm not saying it will, but this political play(all it is) -could- backfire on Obama.   His achilles heel is the same achilles heel all these Ivy League twits have; they believe their own academic bullshit about what motivates other people and how they will respond to their cynical politico goodfellow gesture politics.

If it does backfire on him, the story will be 5 million new illegal alien conservatives suddenly allowed to vote.   Thank you for citizenship, now move aside while we this save this nation from the Progressives.

They aint all M13ers and lazy folks looking for handouts.   But the GOP walked into that meme and wore it on their own.

Fred

Fred,

I agree.  Progressivism is built upon lies - top to bottom.  The True Believers and the Useful Idiot will be the last to realize that, but the rest of the population will gradually come to grasp that.  And then they will align with anyone else.  And the immigrants have extra reasons to align with the more constitutional, the more libertarian party... as soon as they grasp that the horrors of corruption and cronyism and dictatorial government are what they wanted to get away from and that is where the progressives are headed.  And as soon as they grasp that the freedom to do business, to work hard and keep what they earn, and to be able to advance in life and give their kids more than they ever had needs a smaller government that respects property rights.

And the point you make about the Hispanics is too true.  They are becoming aware of, and reacting to, the smug, condescending progressive elites who only see them as a useful stereotype voting block is too true.

Progressivism doesn't have a long shelf-life when it gets to this point.  They have to get their transformation done while they have the momentum or it starts to fall apart.  The level of conflict and strife gets too high, the factional awareness of the differences grows more visible and the level of dysfunctional instability combined with the high levels of stress brings thing to a tipping point.  It could be that too many people are bought and paid for with government gravy, too many people brain-washed, and the media too in the bag, and the elections too rigged and a blind eye is turned by too many as the last radical steps are taken to complete the transformation into some form of socialism.... Or, things get to the point where there is a wave running through the culture exposing the lies, turning the identity groups against the elites for trying to use them, some of the press starts to feel a little shiver of conscience, and the good people not only get really pissed off, but won't calm down and let it slide.  Could go either way.  Could be that the tipping point draws near.

I can easily see the right arguments exposing the lies and bringing out the best in most people, even though I don't see who on the scene today might make those arguments... but that isn't as big a problem as the media refusing to let those arguments be heard.

Steve:

It's a good thing for those who want to take the POTUS up on his political posturing that there is a black market for fake five year old utility bills;

I'm trying to imagine the persons they describe -- poor immigrant workers with no means of legal work, living in the shadows, forced to live in the cracks and crevices of commerce by their undocumented existence -- rushing home from the construction job to file away utility bills in a filing cabinet marked "In Case Some Future POTUS Gets Spanked In An Election And Throws A Fit To Divert Attention From His Inepitude Because 'Hey Look A Squirrel!' Is Losing Its Potency"

But the market -- even the Black Market -- will provide what people want and need, when government can only serve the power seekers.

Fred
