Millions of people make purchasing decisions on Yelp every month.

Do you think that yelp helps business as the founders claim!

I don't use Yelp.  I have a bad impression of the company due to its poor filter of false positive reviews (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yelp#Astroturfing) and removing negative reviews if a business pays them (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yelp#Alleged_manipulation_by_Yelp).

Jennifer Iannolo uses Yelp. She's a food critic and member here.  I've never used it myself.

I use Yelp on occasion. I give more credence to businesses that have a large number of reviews as I feel it's more easy to spot a trend. I do not take a single good review or bad review that seriously. If numerous people are saying the same thing, "great food, mediocre service but you have to try the meatloaf" ... I find that is usually accurate. It is definitely a tool I use to try new restaurants, and mostly when I'm in an unfamiliar city.
