I agree, Kurt, that some relgions are keeping people in misery, even when their are natural resources. Japan has fewer natural resources than many countries and is overly populated, yet they are remarkably civilized, when compared to parts of Africa and the Middle East, and places where religion forbids people from eating beef.

I agree that there is greater knowledge in the world today than yesterday, but I disagree that humans long ago were less human than they are today or that knowledge or lifestyle makes people more or less human. Murdering an Asian in Asia, even if he sits in the dirt all day, is just as signficant as murdering an American in Spokane.

Well, I didn't say they were less human, just that humanity actually is changing.  I really did find it astonishing that humanity had no concept of art (not to mention so much more) for 3/4 of our time on earth.  How does one account for this?  Human origins and all its corollaries are fascinating in so many ways.
