Debating the Bailout
Posted by Merlin Jetton on 9/27, 9:11am
The link is to an on-line article by TheAtlantic. Media distortion and bias and the quality of the candidates are clearly evident.

Per the TheAtlantic article:
Jim Lehrer asked both candidates, plain and simple: Did they support the Treasury's bailout plan? Obama said he hadn't yet seen the full text and wanted to suspend judgment until he had. And McCain said, "Sure." In case no one heard it, he went and said it twice: "Sure."
Here are Lehrer's exact words.
LEHRER: All right, let’s go back to my question. How do you all stand on the recovery plan?
"Recovery plan" is vague because there has been more than one proposal. However, The Atlantic takes it to mean the Paulson-Bernanke proposal. What exactly McCain endorsed with "Sure" is far from clear. He has reportedly supported a Republican-made "insurance plan" and he has spoke out against a "bailout of Wall Street."

As you can see the rest of the article is devoted to bashing McCain. There is not one word about Obama's waffling or indecision. Not having read the full text is a dismal excuse for not having an opinion, given the level of attention on the Congressional hearings on the Paulson-Bernanke proposal in recent days. Obama's response tries to put total blame for the crisis on a Bush-McCain economic philosophy, when it is patently clear that the major cause is Congressional Democrats with their friends Fannie and Freddie, including Obama himself. TheAtlantic conveniently ignores that.
