| Summer Seminar News & Registration Deadline Posted by Ed Hudgins on 6/09, 3:42pm | ||
| Summer Seminar News & Registration Deadline It's now a week before the close of registration for The Atlas Society's 19th annual Summer Seminar on "Objectivism in Theory and Practice" in beautiful Portland, Oregon, from June 28 through July 5. This is the first time our Seminar will feature a presidential candidate: the Libertarian Party's Bob Barr. We scheduled the former Republican congressman from the state of Georgia before he declared his candidacy and won the nomination. He'll be speaking on Sunday, June 29, at 2:00pm (note time change from original schedule) on "Privacy as an Underpinning of Objectivism and the Bill of Rights." (Just to be fair we will also invite John McCain and Barack Obama, though we think the chance of them showing up for an Objectivism event is rather slim!) We're also pleased to announce that in attendance this year will be eight students from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala. UFM is one of the world's premier institutions of higher learning that teaches free market economics and a philosophy of individual rights and limited government. TAS Founder David Kelley has spoken there on several occasions, including once to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Atlas Shrugged; there is a large sculpture commemorating Ayn Rand's great novel at the entrance of the school of business. This year TAS received special generous grants to help students from that school further their education at our Summer Seminar. We know you'll want to take the opportunity to talk with these bright students who will help spread the principles of reason and freedom throughout the hemisphere. At the Summer Seminar we offer some 50 intellectually stimulating presentations on topics in philosophy, politics and culture, aesthetics, and the art of living. You can check out the full schedule at our events website. At the Summer Seminar you will find as always a benevolent gathering of like-minded and open- minded individuals with whom to share ideas, enjoy friendships, and celebrate life--the true Galt's Gulch experience! And don't forget: This year's event at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center at Portland State University will offer upscale accommodations for those who want physical comfort. But we'll still offer basic rooms in the nearby university dorms if you'd rather save your money for other priorities--like purchasing products from our Objectivism Store! You can find the various registration options on The Atlas Society website. Act now! Hope to see you there! | ||
