Bob went on to say that truth will out and that good policy will always outsurvive bad PR. That PR built on deception is like crime, it only "pays" temporarily (with a larger cost waiting for you). That you do not benefit by telling a lie -- even a noble lie -- to the people.

Rand felt the same way, as evidenced by her HUAC testimony. Both McCain and Obama are lying a lot. McCain approved a message that basically misled folks into thinking Obama wanted very young kids to be taught about sex. That was putting out a mistruth. Obama lies everytime he says that republican philosophy is a failed philosophy -- and blames our economic downturn on free market mechanics. Bush put out a mistruth, too.

Imagine an alien race looking down at our lying -- in the background of our history of lying. Imagine the aliens seeing folks like Ayn Rand and Bob Schieffer warning the rest of us. Imagine them seeing most of us falling for further lies -- rather than strengthening our Constitution, political accountability, and policy & procedure transparency (the "right" thing that we should be doing).

I'd bet they'd laugh or cry about it.

About the sex-ed ad, see:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NzI3ZDUzOTE0ZThlMTU3MTY0MDI4ZTY0MTZhY2I2MGY=

The writers of the bill clearly wanted children from kindergarten up to be taught about STDs and how to avoid them, and Obama never challenged this.

Okay, Peter.

I rescind that supposed mistruth as the example that I would give for McCain putting out a mistruth (or endorsing an ad with one).

However, you haven't taken the wind out of my sail here. I simply have to retreat to a safer place and replace the example of mistruth with -- and you probably saw this coming -- with stuff McCain has said about abortion, national service, self-sacrifice, greater good, and regulation of the market.

:-)

There is simply no moral defense for either presidential candidate.

Post 1 of this thread prompted me to start a sex ed thread on the RoR Parenting Forum so as not to hijack this one.
