What I thought was a brilliant advertisement calling on all humans to engage in the lifelong exercise of the virtues of productiveness and rationality.

Yeah, I wish I could call my past... and tell it to sell all my stocks.

Laure!

:-)

I just saw the movie: Deja Vu -- starring D. Washington -- with some friends. My friends and I joked about going back to tell ourselves things -- like: "invest in Google as soon as you hear it coming out!." Talk about insider trading!

Anyway, in order to prevent myself from going insane (though some would say it's too late for that), I wouldn't just walk up to my past self -- but I'd prepare him to see me, first. I'd probably start with an email, something like this:

=========
Hi, Ed.

I am someone that I think you'd like to meet. I've seen your stuff on RoR and I'm impressed. I promise to let you know anything about myself at our meeting. Before we make plans for the meeting however, which can be anywhere and anytime of your choosing -- including, of course, public places (for safety or whatever) -- I request that you do just one thing first: Watch the movie: Deja Vu (starring D. Washington).

After watching the movie, please reply to this email. The outcome of our meeting would affect me every bit as much as it would you -- and likely in exactly the same way.

Sincerely yours,
Temporarily Anonymous
=========

I have to admit that, if I got the email above, after watching the movie I'd email myself certain personal questions that only I know the answers to -- as a test -- and possibly repeat the process until I became comfortable meeting myself for the first time.

:-)

They say there are things about you that only other people can see. That would cease to be true for me in this fantastical context. Instead, I'd gain a global persective on myself.

Scary.

Ed

You've never met yourself, Ed? Ed, may I introduce yourself yourself? (Place right hand in left, have each hand squeeze the palm of the other.) Ed, this is Ed. I'm sure you'll enjoy knowing each other.
