This is wonderful news, if true. I'd much rather McCain run against the "devil-ess" we know...

Is there another source for this yet? I didn't find any major outlets touching this on google yet. Was the blog you cited the first source of this, Rodney?

Very interesting. If true, it disqualifies him simply for the fact that he didn't learn from the Dan Rather forgery!

Drudge has supossedly refused to post this. A Texas site has had this story since 7/31:

The blog Atlas Shrugs announced this latest news, and the expert they quoted left the previous certificate owner's name unstated, offering a prize to anyone who could independently uncover it. Apparently more than one did.

Here at RoR we went over something like this a few months ago.  Fringe sources were promoting a piece of gossip that the regular news outlets wouldn't touch.  It had to do with Hilary Clinton supposedely getting fired from the Watergate committee staff for crooked behavior.  Nothing came of that one, and nothing will come of this one.

I believe this! Sceptics might say that endorsing a crudely photoshopped document would be an act so stupid that no serious presidential candidate would even consider it. They might also point out that this is exactly the kind of malicious rumour that the Obama campaign has been subjected to from the start of the campaign. The accusations might seem, in other words, to be ridiculous, but we should remember that Obama is a radical Muslim who was sworn into office on a copy of the Koran signed by Karl Marx. And his wife once said "Whitey" on tape. And his name sounds like Osama - the prosecution rests.

It is no longer just a rumor, of course. The only question is: Who is responsible, and why was it done?

It is just a rumour, even the people who claim to have found evidence for this haven't released it, they merely say that they soon will.

it couldn't be more of a rumour.

The evidence has been replicated by at least three independent researchers, and the process of uncovering the text was posted.

There are unsubstantiatable claims that multiple people have done so, all we actually have, are blog posts.

I apologize that I was mistaken when I said that the method has not been made public. It has been, and it's a farce. It consists of finding pixels that don't quite look right to you on Obama's certificate - with the naked eye - and then doing the same thing for the other certificate - again with the naked eye, indeed with the same naked eye. lo and behold, you find that the funny pixels are in the same place on both certificates!

It would be insulting to the reader to spell out why this is a flawed procedure.

Apology accepted.

The same pixels, with the same implication of the same letters spelling out the same name of the same Obama relative.

Rodney, could you give a brief concise statement of the proof that it is a forgery from Maya's BC in your own words?

Sure, Ted, but I am a bit surprised that some people cannot see how conclusive this is. (Unless, of course, they say that everyone is lying and there is some sort of conspiracy involved. I have thought that over, and dismiss that possibility.) Then again, perhaps it is only my decades of experience as an editor, in which I have to process and understand a huge volume of text every day, that helps me.

In any case, I will have to go from memory, since, as is often the case, I am quite busy right now (processing and understanding a huge amount of text!). Here is the situation as I understand it off the top of my head:

Apparently in response to accusations that Senator Obama was refusing to release his birth certificate to prove he is eligible to become President, a website called the Daily Kos posted a scan of a document titled Certificate of Live Birth that it said came from the Obama campaign. (Such a document is not an actual birth certificate according to some posters, but that is a side issue.) The certificate number was blacked out, and there appeared to be no embossed seal. (Later it seems someone was able to tease out an image of a seal, but—if I understand correctly—it only occurred on a second copy of the document posted, and some say that has suspicious features also.)

It wasn’t long before people started saying the document was fake, and someone whose screen name was Techdude, who said he was a long-time forensic document investigator, decided to examine the scan. I think it was at this point that I noticed these developments and started to follow them.

On the blog Atlas Shrugs, Techdude eventually posted his analysis and concluded the document was a crude forgery. He compared the decorative border with those of known authentic documents from Hawaii in the year before and after, and found significant differences, as well as other evidence of tampering in the form of stray marks, irregularities, font differences, and an unusual halo around the text printed on the document. There was also some metadata (hidden information in the digital file) that proved photoshopping had taken place.

Of course, pro-Obama people responded strongly, with arguments of their own, but a lot of technical jargon and complexities were thrown around on both sides, so for myself I simply decided that although Techdude sounded more convincing, and I thought he was right, I could not be absolutely certain.

Then, again on Atlas Shrugs, Techdude posted to the effect that he had uncovered an actual name under the existing text by matching a certain type and pattern of stray marks with letters of the alphabet in the same font. These marks were apparently very disjoint, but they appeared around the visible text that was Obama-specific, and there was enough to pinpoint some of the seemingly erased letters and narrow down the possibilities for others. This, combined with the fact that in readable text, certain combinations of letters are less likely or impossible, enabled Techdude to reconstruct the presumably hidden text.

It spelled out the name of one of Obama’s relatives.

Techdude did not release the name, out of consideration for the person or persons responsible so that they would have a chance to come forward without damage to their reputation or legal consequences. But he also issued a challenge to readers to follow his own process and see if they could make out the name themselves. He even offered a prize in the form of a free trip to Las Vegas to the first person who succeeded.

At least three people, most of them non-experts in graphics or forensics, independently came up with the same name. Techdude awarded the person the prize.

Here's the latest development:

http://texasdarlin.wordpress.com/

(By the way, that's a pro-Hillary site I think!)

The stunning information recently revealed on Barack Obama forged COLB and potential multiple citizenship suggests that Barack H. Obama is not eligible under Article II of the US Constitution to serve as POTUS.

Because the DNC, and likely our respective state Democratic Committees, have not vetted Obama, it has been up to average American citizens to do so. I've put this short guide together based on my experience in my very red state to enable others to do so. This is my story.

For my state, and for others, it looks like the deadline for certifying the eligibility of Presidential candidates "under the constitution" to participate in caucuses, primaries and conventions has passed. Obama had to submit papers by Feb 8th 2008 in my state, as did other candidates. So it is assumed that the candidate the party puts forward is legit.

Now we see what the rush with Obama was. Get every state to certify him before any information came out on the eligibility issue--look at how close we are to the convention and he really has just been busted!
Just to clarify my own opinion, it may well be that Obama is eligible and was born in Hawaii. But in the light of all the missing info on him, the absence of a physical birth certificate, and the posting of a faked one, I think it is up to him to prove he can legally run for President, by the letter of the law.

The problem I have with the supposed corroboration of the Maya source is that if you issue a challenge to millions of people, it is likely that at least three will come up with Obama's sister just by chance. Now, is there a link directly showing the similarities between his and her certificate? And are the similarities unique to the two documents? Thanks, my sanction for your response.

I'll bet you the price of a Napoleon costume that no reputable news outlet* will take this story up between now and the end of 2008.

(*The 3 old networks, Fox, CNN, Time, Newsweek, USN&WR and the news pages of the 10 largest-circulation papers in the US)

Ted, Techdude explains the how-to somewhere in the web of links on this, and invites anyone to try it. Investigate a bit and you'll find it. I haven't done so but plan to when I get the time. For now, it's back to work for me!

Remember that it was the so-called "reputable" networks that deified Obama to begin with. Often they are subject to fads, trends, and a desire not to rock the boat. So appeals to respectability cut no ice with me.

PS: Even supporters of Senator Obama might want to sign this petition. (Please note that there is a typo in the URL that, if corrected, may destroy the link.)

PPS: One should look around the Net for a copy of the high-resolution image to work on, since Daily Kos as of this date is now displaying only a very low-resolution image that does not link to a better one. And Google will be no help--for some reason image searches no longer find any copies of it of any resolution. However, I am sure they can be easily had from those persons who analyzed it earlier.
