Yes, the motivation is religious. (Such solicitude for corpses has been the subject of many lawsuits and the determining factor in how the WTC rubble is treated.) It is the only motivation for Olmert in this exchange. He has taught the terrorists that the best way to free assassins is to kill Jews. One wonders if death would be an acceptable state of being for some Israelis, so long as no one desecrates the cemetery...
