In Reason's heyday, they were famous for their want ads, where every megalomaniacal would-be John Galt would post an ad for "The Answer." These were often the most entertaining part of the magazine. When they cancelled them, I knew it was downhill from there.
It was also indicative of the direction of the libertarian movement, which was to distance itself from the "crazies," and try to portray itself as a more consistent kind of Republican. The LP was the primary vehicle for this sea change. People were telling me about how they were forbidden to even mention in speeches at LP events any libertarian activity not part of politics, even though some of them were doing really exciting things.
As the communication channels became regulated and censored by the keepers of the faith, naturally all innovation died, a phenom which I referred to in print in 1976 or 1977, an article which was quoted by Erwin "Filthy Pierre" Straus. Thus, answers to problems such as children's rights or original property claims, were never identified, and the problems were just swept under the rug.
