| | You provide an interesting read here, so I sanctioned it. I get the impression you wrote this for a professor rather than a general audience given its academic wording. I do agree with the general thrust regarding the relationship between economics and divorce.
I caught flak here some years ago for my review of the book No Marriage. The author of that book, a Russian immigrant, had a very negative view of American women. Your article supports his claims about women wanting to change the men they marry. However, I frankly think many men benefit from these changes, such as taking better care of themselves and learning to listen more intensely and empathically.
I know a recently divorced woman going through financial hell precisely due to the circumstances you describe. She neglected to establish herself firmly in a career and then ran a huge credit card debt to leave her emotionally abusive alcoholic husband. Now she relies on food stamps just to eat and has put her house at risk of foreclosure.
A free society needs a better way of handling mating and reproduction than the current system offers.
