Bridget,

urQ "Sorry for the rant there, I've just been debating people on Objectivism and science on other forums, and pretty much my ability to retain some level of civility is wearing thin."

I can sympathize with you there. Few other sites offer the reasonable discussions found here.

Have you read this blog about Argentina?

Very scary stuff.

Kurt: This is the very reason why I mentioned in Post 18: "In spite of all the troubles Argentina is facing in the hands of a red-wing government populated by bureaucrats coming from all branches of the terrorism in Argentina of the 70's, the Spanish language seems to be on the forefront in what refers to publishing translated versions of Rand's books."

Recently I said to my good friend Rosa Pelz of "Grito Sagrado" that by now we have lost the battle, though not the war, since all leftwingers and religions are celebrating their momentary triumph all over the world. This includes the USA, of course. A short warning on this: I am neither a defender either of Republicans or Democrats in what refers to American governments. Living here in Europe I am merely a lone wolf howling in the desert in favor of Objectivism ;-)

"Red-wing?" Is that a real Spanish or Deutsch saying, a Freudian slip, or your invention?

Ted: I wrote in a hurry and, thus, made the typical mistake peculiar to those who know several languages, that is, to use the to the writer most common expression first. Of course I meant "left-wingers"; "los Rojos" and "die Roten" (the Reds) being respectively the Spanish and German equivalents.

Still, it would be good if you were to take to heart a proverb that appears in El Quijote, chapters 2 and 37, as published in 1605, which is very popular in Spanish and even used from time to time in English: "A buen entendedor, pocas palabras bastan", which means "To the wise, words abound" or, else, "A word to the wise is sufficient".

Evidently, everybody else that read what I wrote understood what I meant, since for someone who understands, a few words or even a different expression that, however, means the same, suffice. Objectivists should be birds of a feather when it comes to intellectual understanding…

I'll take your post in a light vein...

Oh, yes, I am sure everyone understood. I was struck because the redwing blackbird is a favorite, native to the area where I grew up. I thought you might actually have been translating a foreign phrase, and if so, wanted to know from which language. I like the Spanish proverb, (with which I was not familiar) but am not aware of any English equivalent.

I like the fact that the Europeans call the left "reds" and think that would make the issues here in america much clearer if we did the same.
