Steve, I understand your point about the honesty example. I could tell when I wrote it that it had that sort of weakness. I don't fully agree with your view. I think it isn't about Ratsi hiding his interest in going to a party. I view it more as understanding that both parties in a relationship have needs and wants. He has to choose. Maybe he would be better off with someone that doesn't mind if he goes and sees strippers. Maybe not. But simply because he has wants doesn't make it rational to pursue those, nor does it make it irrational to not submit to them.
As I mentioned before, I had very specific criteria for these examples. In this case, I needed an example where Ratsi did something early to avoid being in a situation where he'd be better off lying. But it had to be that that action wasn't the best short-term decision, or Al would have done it too. This example worked, but if I had more time I might have come up with something better.
I appreciate the interest in my articles in general. I hope to do more writing. But most of what I write could be polished quite a bit.
