Whenever you hear someone put down the self-made individual, look out—you are likely hearing from a would-be tyrant.

Right!

I am a self-made man.

And it did not take a Village to make me so!

Ooops! Did I just hint at a potential tyrant?

Shame on me! Bad gw! Bad!

One reason is that people who would want to be leaders of others, people who like to rule others, people who want to impose ideas on others find the self-made individual an obstacle to their program.

I really liked this article [sanction]. These types of people miss the point that all effort comes from the individual--- including leadership. You cannot lead if you can't lead your own mind/self, first and foremost. And weirdly, the best leaders I've found are the ones who would rather not have to lead and are always egging people to figure it out on their own.

Another point is "impose ideas on others". Once that gets into anyone's head, they are at the will of whether someone else accepts their ideas. They enter into a destructive relationship wherein some kind of unhealthy dependency occurs between two blinded parties.

Hence, the vital importance of clear-sightedness and autonomy at a person's utmost effort. :)
